Somerset, NJ -- The NEC has earned two spots in the NSCAA/adidas Men's Soccer Top-25 Poll, released on Tuesday.  Fairleigh Dickinson is ranked 15th, while Central Connecticut State is tied for 23rd in the nation.

The NEC is one of only seven conferences with multiple teams represented in the national poll.  The ACC leads the pack with seven schools, followed by the NEC, Big East, SEC, Conference USA, Atlantic-10 and WCC with two apiece.

Five NEC teams are also represented in NSCAA regional polls.  In the North Atlantic region, Fairleigh Dickinson is ranked #1, followed by CCSU at #2, Saint Francis (PA) at #5, Monmouth at #7 and Robert Morris at #8.

Fairleigh Dickinson competed at the Ameritas Classic at Creighton over the weekend against a pair of Missouri Valley foes. The Knights downed Missouri St. in the opener, 2-1 in double overtime, on Brine/NEC Rookie of the Week Jorge Blacido’s (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) golden goal, then played to a scoreless draw with the host Bluejays, who were ranked #8 in the NSCAA Preseason Poll and have appeared in the last 14 NCAA Tournaments.  Earlier in the week, the Knights shutout Stony Brook, 3-0.

In its season opener last Monday, Central Connecticut State knocked off #14 Loyola Marymount, 2-1 in double overtime, two days after the Lions stunned then-#2 UConn in Storrs. Sophomore Ben Howe (Havelock North, New Zealand/Havelock North), the Brine/NEC Player of the Week, scored the second of his two goals just 36 seconds into the second extra session to win it.  The Blue Devils went on to play to a scoreless tie with Siena on Wednesday and downed St. Peter’s, 5-2, on Sunday.  CCSU is also ranked #25 in the latest Soccer America poll.
