Hamden, CT  --  Behind five all-Conference performances, Quinnipiac won the 2009 NEC Women’s Cross Country Championship for the unprecendented fifth consecutive year. Sacred Heart junior Kimberly DeLoreto (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Hills) turned in the lone sub-18 minute time to take first-place in 17:58.1, earning NEC Outstanding Performer merit by just over 16 seconds. DeLoreto, who was the 2007 NEC Freshman of the Year, became the second Pioneer to ever win the event and the first since SHU’s Katherine Wrinkle in 2003. A sprint over the final 400-yards gave Mount St. Mary’s rookie Megan Kinsella (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) a second-place finish and a time of 18:14.9 en route to NEC Freshman of the Year distinction.

Quinnipiac totaled 33 points to take home the hardware, while Sacred Heart was the runner-up with a team score of 71. Monmouth accumulated 98 points, good for third place as Saint Francis (PA) (127) and Mount St. Mary’s (163) rounded out the top-five. With 168 points, Central Connecticut State sat in the sixth slot, followed by Robert Morris (176) and Bryant (203) in seventh and eighth, respectively. Long Island’s 219-point effort was good for ninth, while Fairleigh Dickinson (281), St. Francis (NY) (296) and Wagner (308) completed the 12-team field.

The Bobcat contingent placed five runners among the top-11 as they were paced by the reigning NEC Freshman of the Year, Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who crossed the line in 18:15.3 to take third place.  On her heels was freshman Becca White (Natick, MA/Natick), who captured the fourth slot with a time of 18:18.3. Senior Kristen Stevens (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) surged to sixth place (18:35.8) and classmate Lindsey Pierret (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) clocked in at 18:53.1, good for ninth place. Rounding out QU’s all-leaguers was sophomore Julie Lanning (Victor, NY/Victor) in 11th with a 18:56.7 clip. The Bobcats' Carolyn Martin was selected as the NEC Coach of the Year after her first year at the helm.

Monmouth and Bryant landed one harrier on the all-NEC list apiece, as Hawk senior Cailin Lynam (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) rounded out the top-five in 18:19.8 and Bulldog freshman Deirdre Doyle (Carlow, Ireland) claimed seventh with a time of 18:43.8. Long Island senior Selina Munoz (San Diego, CA) was the lone Blackbird to receive all-Conference merit with a time of 18:51.7 and eighth place, while Central Connecticut State junior Katherine Bossardet (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) represented the Blue Devils on the all-NEC list, clocking in at 19:01.0 to take 12th place.

The Saint Francis (PA) duo of sophomore Sarah Grossi (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) and senior Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, PA/Mohawk) came in 10th and 13th, respectively, with times of 18:55.8 and 19:04.3 to earn all-league recognition. SHU’s Olivia Civardi (Brightwaters, NY/Bay Shore) ran to a 14th-place standing (19:10.2), rounding out the all-NEC performers.
