Women's Soccer Brine/NEC Player of the Week
|
Jessica McCavanagh, Central Connecticut
In her final two home matches, McCavanagh put the four-time defending NEC champion Blue Devils on the brink of clinching an NEC Tournament berth by tallying a goal and three assists in CCSU’s 1-0-1 week. In a 2-2 deadlock with Sacred Heart on Friday, she sent a through ball to Kari Mancini, who scored the game-tying goal from just inside the 18-yard box with 11 minutes remaining in the match. On Sunday, the Massapequa, NY product scored once and added two assists as CCSU’s pulled away late in a 4-2 triumph over Fairleigh Dickinson. McCavanagh’s goal came on a one-on-one with the FDU keeper in the 87th minute and gave the Blue Devils a 3-1 edge. On the season, the two-time first team all-NEC honoree ranks second in the conference in points (18), third in assists (six) and fourth in goals (six).
