Field Hockey NEC Player of the Week

Danielle Allan, Quinnipiac
Riverdale, NJ / Pompton Lakes
F
Freshman
5-1

Quinnipiac jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead in its season-opening victory over Holy Cross, and Allan had a hand in all three goals. Making for a memorable collegiate debut, the freshman forward logged two first-half tallies and assisted on another during the Bobcats’ 6-2 home triumph over the Patriot League member. She assisted on Kaitlyn Notarianni’s goal that opened the game’s scoring in the 13th minute and doubled the Bobcats’ lead 15:24 later on her first career tally, which came on a putback. After Holy Cross cut Quinnipiac’s lead in half by getting on the board 3:17 before halftime, Allan answered back by netting her second goal of the contest with 42 seconds left in the opening half.

Virginia Egusquiza, Rider

MF
Senior
5-4

Looking everything like the reigning two-time NEC Player of the Year she is, Egusquiza opened her senior season in blistering fashion. The fourth-year Bronc tallied five points on two goals and one assist in a 9-3 thumping of Ball State. Both of Egusquiza’s goals came during the first half of play as Rider held a 5-1 advantage at the break. The 5-foot-4 midfielder notched her first goal of the season in the 27th minute, extending Rider’s lead to 4-0 on an unassisted tally. One minute and 11 seconds after Ball State finally put itself on the scoreboard to pull within three, Egusquiza answered back to give the Broncs’ a four-goal edge heading into the locker-room. Her first assist of the season came 4:48 into the second half on Megan Pisani’s goal, which extended the lead to 6-1. Egusquiza led the NEC in scoring during the 2010 season, totaling 44 points in 19 games (11G, 22A).
