Men's Soccer adidas/NEC Player of the Week

Ola Ogunjobi, Quinnipiac
London, England / St. Bonaventure
F
Freshman

What a week for rookie Ola Ogunjobi and the Quinnipiac men’s soccer team. The freshman forward netted his first collegiate hat trick to power the Bobcats to their first victory of the season, a 4-3 barnburner over in-state rival Hartford last Wednesday, and earn both adidas/NEC Player and Rookie of the Week honors. It marks the first time an NEC player captured both weekly honors since FDU’s Michael Calderon did it last season (Oct. 18) with a two-goal effort that put his Knights back into the NEC playoff race. Ogunjobi got on the scoresheet with his first career goal just over three minutes into the second half, giving QU a 2-0 lead at the time. After three straight Hawk goals over a seven-minute and 46-second span, the London, England native put on a clutch performance, tying the game at 3-all in the 61st minute before completing his hat trick with 88:57 showing on the clock. In addition to it being the first three-goal outing by an NEC player this season, it was the first hat trick by a Bobcat since then-freshman Philip Suprise scored three times in a game on Oct. 9, 2009, eventually earning the adidas/NEC Rookie of the Week accolade just a few days later.
