NEC freshmen have come to play this season. Just one week after a rookie swept the adidas/NEC weekly honors, another first-year player exploded on to the scene to do it again, as Mount St. Mary’s Zoncher Dennis totaled five goals last week to take home the titles of adidas/NEC Player and Rookie of the Week. Leading his team to a 2-0 record, Dennis started the week by netting the game-winner in just the 10th minute of play in a 2-0 win over Howard on Monday. He then put on a performance the conference has not seen in nearly five years when he accounted for four of his team’s five goals in a 5-0 blanking of La Salle on Saturday. It marked the most goals scored by an NEC player since Robert Morris’ Jared Przednowek struck paydirt four times in a win over Manhattan, 6-1, in 2006, and the most strikes by a Mountaineer in the program’s Division I history. Additionally, Dennis’ effort gave him the conference lead in several statistical categories, including goals (6) and points (13).
