Another tournament, another championship match contested for McEwan and the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights. McEwan posted a weekend-long 20.44 frame average in leading FDU to a runner-up finish at the talent-loaded UMES Hawks Classic. The reigning NEC Bowler of the Year was a key part of the Knights’ 5-0 record during the traditional play portion of the meet, but was especially effective during baker play. McEwan’s 196.0 traditional game average ranked eighth amongst all individuals on hand but was a slight drop-off from the marks she posted during the season’s first two tournaments. Still, McEwan was anything but average during the Knights’ traditional wins over National No. 1 Maryland-Eastern Shore, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T, Morgan State, and Howard. After putting forth a 203 game against NC A&T, the All-American turned in a 200-pin performance in a 998-953 triumph over the host UMES Hawks. Her top traditional performance was a 221 game in a 189-pin rout of Howard. McEwan, who struck on 48.7 percent of her attempts throughout the three-day event, accounted for a team-high 1,268 pinfall over the course of six baker matches. Her .882 filled frame percentage also led the Knights who fell to Vanderbilt in the meet’s title tilt.
