Shirak topped the individual standings at Delaware State’s Capital City Classic. becoming the first NJCU player to accomplish such a feat at a tournament this season. The first-year Gothic Knight put forth a 209.0 individual game average over the course of five traditional team matches, all of which were won by New Jersey City. Firing a trio of 200-plus games, Shirak helped the Gothic Knights take down Florida A&M, Howard, and No. 13 Norfolk State. The North Jersey product saved her high game of 231 for the nationally-ranked Spartans. Overall, Shirak averaged 20.02 pins per frame during the weekend’s 11-match sample that saw NJCU go 10-1. She struck 56 times in 118 chances (.474) throughout both the traditional and baker portions of the three-day meet. The rookie right-hander left only 15 opens all weekend as she filled 86.5 percent of frames bowled. With her latest weekly honor, Shirak joins Saint Francis’ (PA) Christina Leid, LIU Brooklyn’s Brittany Hart, and Saint Peter’s Megan Turczynski as two-time NEC Rookie of the Week winners.
