Baseball NEC Pitcher of the Week

Light has been “Lights Out” over his first two Northeast Conference starts. His most recent body of work included 7.0 innings of perfection against Wagner. Light out-dueled Seahawks’ ace Ryan Van Spronsen and finished on the winning side of a 2-0 final that saw both starting pitchers go the distance. Monmouth 6-foot-6 right-handed fireballer set down the first 21 batters to face him before Wagner catcher Hayden Hunter spoiled the perfect game bid with a single up the middle to start the eighth inning. Light induced a ground-ball double play from the ensuing batter. He surrendered another single with two outs in the eighth before the last four batters of the game in order. Light faced only one batter more than the minimum in becoming the first NEC pitcher in the last five years to open the conference season with back-to-back complete-game nine-inning victories. He allowed two hits and struck out 11 batters while walking none over 9.0 fine innings of work. The most impressive part of his stat line may be the fact that he threw 75 of his 102 pitches for strikes.
