Men's Outdoor Track NEC Track Athlete of the Week

Sam Alexander, Central Connecticut
Waterford, CT / Waterford
Distance
Senior

Alexander’s recent 10K performance at Stanford’s Palo Alto Invitational is evidence that the NEC Outdoor Championship meet record will be in jeopardy come May 5-6 in Emmitsburg, MD.  The Blue Devil harrier, who claimed the individual title at the 2011 NEC Cross Country Championships, finished the 10,000m run in 29:21.06 to immediately catapult himself atop the NEC leader board.  The time, which is far better than the qualifying standard for the regional IC4A Championships, ranks ninth overall in the entire NCAA East Region. Moreover, Alexander’s latest 10K performance broke a 30-plus year old program record and is 10 seconds lower than the meet record that FDU’s Sam Chelenga ran at the 2007 NEC Outdoor Championships.
