Sportman spearheaded an offensive attack that plated 48 runs in four games and helped the Blue Devils secure a NEC Tournament berth for the seventh straight season. The sophomore outfielder produced multiple hits and batted in at least one run in each of Central Connecticut’s four NEC games against Mount St. Mary’s. He batted .667 (12-for-18) with nine runs scored and seven RBI during the four-game sweep that moved Central into a tie for third place in the final NEC regular season standings. Sportman’s 12 hits were four more than any other NEC player had during the last weekend of league play. With CCSU’s postseason fate still in question, Sportman wasted no time in staking the Blue Devils’ to an early lead in the series opener. He blasted his seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot, three batters into Game 1 and finished the eventual 9-0 win by going 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. Sportman connected on two base-knocks, including a fifth-inning, run-scoring single, in Game 2, an eventual 6-5 triumph for CCSU. He reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances in Game 3, going 4-for-4 with a walk, four runs, and four RBI. The 5-foot-9 outfielder produced a 3-for-5 showing with three runs scored and two RBI in the series finale.
