Broome’s second straight NEC Rookie of the Week honor and fifth of the season comes after one of the finest two-game stretches of his young career. Broome supplied 22.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game off the bench, while shooting 56.7 percent (17-30) from the field and 55.6 percent (5-9) from beyond the arc in a pair of SHU wins that locked up the #6 seed for the Pioneers. Up two late at FDU on Thursday, Broome converted a layup at the shot clock buzzer to give the Pioneers a three point lead with 1:14 to play en-route to a 90-85 victory. His 23 points and seven boards were both single-game highs against league opposition for the freshman. Broome followed up by leading all scorers with 21 points in SHU’s 84-73 win over LIU Brooklyn in its regular season finale on Saturday. He made 7-13 shots from the floor, including 3-5 from distance. The East Hartford, CT product was also a perfect 4-4 at the line in the final three minutes to help the Pioneers seal the victory. Broome ranks eighth in the NEC and second among league freshman with 14.2 ppg.
