Men's Outdoor Track NEC Rookie of the Week
|
Zach Torrell, Monmouth
Manahawkin, NJ / Lacey
Javelin
Freshman
Another week and another improvement in the javelin for Torrell. The first-year Hawk added more than a foot to his previous seasonal best while throwing his way to first place in the College Division at the Penn Relays. Torrell’s winning throw of 65.04m (213’ 4”) surpassed the qualifying standard for the IC4A Championships by over 20 feet. The three-time NEC Rookie of the Week ranks 31st amongst the top javelin throwers in the NCAA East Region while sitting 68th on the overall NCAA Division I leader board. His stiffest competition for the NEC title will likely come from one of his fellow Monmouth Hawks. MU junior Vincent DuVernois is the current NEC event leader with Torrell right behind in second and second-year Hawk Kevin Gilhuly in third.
