Softball Akadema/NEC Player of the Week
|
Chelsea Siar, Robert Morris
Siar had a major week offensively for Robert Morris, helping the Colonials clinch the top seed and the host bid for the NEC Tournament. She batted .667 and posted an exceptional 1.778 slugging percentage as she drilled four extra-base hits, including three home runs, in the four contests RMU played. In the deciding game Sunday against Mount St. Mary's, Siar showed the poise of a veteran by going a perfect 3-for-3 with two homers, including her first-career grand slam. The rookie notched six RBIs with two outs on the board, becoming just the fifth player in school history to tally at least six runs batted in a single game. Siar went 1-for-2 with a double and a sacrifice fly to deep center in the opener, and was only retired once after knocking a lined shot back up the middle that took the pitcher's glove off before she was thrown out at first. In a doubleheader at in-state rival Saint Francis earlier in the week, Siar went a combined 2-for-4 with a homer and also reached base via a walk and a hit by pitch. She finished the regular season slugging .517 in NEC play.
