Women's Basketball Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week
|
Alisa Apo, Sacred Heart
Apo produced plenty during a pair of victories that extended Sacred Heart’s win streak to 14 and allowed the Pioneers to remain the NEC’s lone unbeaten. The sophomore point guard averaged 22.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per contest while sinking 15-of-29 shots from the field on Sacred Heart’s road swing through Pennsylvania. Powering the Pioneers in the closing seconds of their 61-60 road victory over two-time defending NEC champion Robert Morris, Apo scored the last four of her team-high 18 points from the free throw line. The second-year starter drew a foul underneath the basket with 00:16 remaining and sunk the ensuing free throws to give SHU a 59-58 advantage. Eleven seconds later, Apo returned to the stripe, where she shot 10-of-12 (.833) for the week, and added two insurance points. Apo came up clutch again in a 76-69 triumph at Saint Francis (PA). She scored 16 of her game-high 27 points by halftime before exploding down the stretch. The sophomore guard dropped in eight straight points during the game’s final 3:15 to build on Sacred Heart’s three-point advantage at the time.
