Hershey, PA –
For the fifth time in six years, Saint Francis (PA) is crowned the 2007 Northeast Conference women’s golf team championship. The Red Flash concluded the three-day, 54-hole course with a final tally of 1005. Led by the 2007 Coach of the Year, Paula Cloud, Central Connecticut State was the runner up with a total of 1024. Finishing in third was Long Island by way of a score of 1031 while Sacred Heart came in fourth (1037). In fifth and sixth place were Robert Morris (1065) and Monmouth (1067). Rounding out the tournament, Mount St. Mary’s (1093), Wagner (1219) and Fairleigh Dickinson (1251) finished in seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
The conference’s top team will go on to compete at the NCAA Regional Golf Tournament while the top-10 individual finishers garner all-Northeast Conference honors.
Winning her second consecutive individual title, Saint Francis (PA) junior Samantha Milosh (Aliquippa, PA/Center) racked up a three-day total of 234 after firing a seven-over-par 78 in final round action. With an incredible final round of 78, Monmouth junior Rylee Plitz (Innisfail, Alberta/Innisfail) leaped into runner-up position finishing with a total of 243. Fairleigh Dickinson freshman Eva Mayre (Schwendi, Germany) saved her best round for last, firing an 80 to complete the course with a third-best final score of 244.
Tied for fourth, Central Connecticut State freshman Lucie Sarochova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nad Stoulou) and Long Island senior Erica Chong (Hilo, HI/Hilo) both shot a final tally of 245. Sarochova remained consistent throughout the three-day event (81-82-82) while Chong steadily progressed to earn all-NEC status (84-83-78). Saint Francis (PA) senior Megan Schaffer (Richland, PA/Eastern Lebanon) also carded a field-low 78, to move up in rankings for a sixth-place finish of 247. With a blistering 82, Central Connecticut State sophomore Debora Kim (Shelburn, ONT/Centre Dufferin District) earned sole position of seventh place with a final score of 253.
Monmouth sophomore Brigid Cahill (Whiting, NJ/Manchester Twp.) and Wagner junior Emily Noelker (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) both finished with scores of 255 to tie for eighth. At ninth place, Long Island junior Heather Pothier (Truro, Nova Scotia/St. Andrew’s Pres. College) scored her tournament-low (84) to finish with a 256 and Sacred Heart junior Ali Heyes (Durobin, ONT/West Carelton Secondary) fired a personal low 81 to stand in 10th and round out the all-conference team.
Saint Francis (PA) will now go on to represent the Northeast Conference at the 2007 NCAA Women’s Golf Regional Tournament. The 26th annual NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship selection will be on Monday, April 4th at 4:00pm at ncaasports.com.
