Loretto, PA -- For the first time in program history, both the men’s and women’s soccer teams have earned the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year.
“To be recognized for their academic achievement is always a compliment to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes, that not only showed on the field but also in the classroom,” head women’s soccer coach Brenda van Stralen said.
A total of 789 collegiate soccer teams (218 men, 571 women), posted grade point averages of 3.0 or higher to qualify them for the award. Saint Francis is one of 154 schools to have both their men’s and women’s programs recognized.
“It is a tremendous honor to be given the NSCAA team academic award as this shows the commitment of our student-athletes to achieve in the classroom as well as on the field,” head men’s soccer coach Michael Casper said. “I would like to thank our faculty, staff and support services for all that they do in helping us achieve such an honor.“
The men’s team pulled in a 3.32 team GPA, which ranks them 11th among all Division-I institutions, while the women sported a 3.20 academic mark.
