Saint Francis (PA)'s McKibben Earns NSCAA Academic Honor, Granted Redshirt

1/18/2012

Loretto, PA -- Saint Francis University junior women's soccer student-athlete Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) recently received a double dose of good news.

With an outstanding grade-point-average of 3.45, the Management/Marketing major was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America University Scholar All-East Second Team. Not only that, but the two-time Northeast Conference Player of the Year has been granted a medical redshirt for her injury-shortened 2009 season.

“This is a tremendous honor for Tesa,” said SFU head coach Brenda van Stralen. “She is a player who is a very hard worker in and out of the classroom and is very deserving of this recognition. We are excited to have her back for the next two seasons.”

After missing her freshman year with an injury, McKibben burst onto the scene as a sophomore, leading the league in goals and points en-route to NEC Player of the Year accolades. Last season was no different for the junior as she led the league in points (33) and goals (14) for the second year running. As a team, the Red Flash went 12-6-3, earning the program's first-ever league regular season championship.

After only 46 career games, McKibben stands just two goals shy of matching the SFU record for career goals (33) and four points away from tying the school mark in that category (81).
