Monmouth extended its winning streak to three games thanks to the play of this week’s NEC Player of the Week, junior midfielder
Joseph Schmid. The second-year Hawk, who transferred from BIG EAST member Villanova after his freshman season, scored a goal and totaled four points on the weekend. He handed out an assist in his squad’s 3-0 blanking of Quinnipiac on Thursday, and then scored the game’s first marker and set up the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday. He now ranks second on the team with eight points, half of which came this past weekend. Looking at the rookie honor, two players really stepped up this past weekend, forcing the NEC staff to share the award. Robert Morris’
Bruce Cullen gave the Colonials their first league win of the season when he scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in a 1-0 win over Saint Francis (PA). Sharing the honor, Central Connecticut’s
Ben Knight scored two goals, including the game-winner with just 21 ticks to play, in a 3-2 win over St. Francis (NY), kicking off a 1-1 weekend for the Blue Devils.
