Smithfield, RI—Bryant’s Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland/Dominican College Fitzwilliam) captured her first career NEC Women’s Cross Country Championship title in a course record time of 17:34 to earn Outstanding Performer Honors, while Quinnipiac won its eighth consecutive team title. The eight-year championship reign is the longest current streak in any NEC-sponsored sport and is now the longest streak in league annals.

Black, last year’s second place finisher as a sophomore, led a field of 160 harriers the entire way through the Bryant University course. Her time broke a course record of 18:00 set on Sept. 9.

Senior Alyssa Selmquist
(Northford, CT/North Branford)
of Sacred Heart  took second place with a time 17:47 to once again earn NEC-All Conference accolades while Quinnipiac’s Becca White (Natick, MA/Natick) was close behind in third place with a time of 17:51. Sacred Heart’s Brianna Castrogivanni  (Commack, NY/Commack) was fourth, running to a time of 17:56, and Bryant’s Martha Reynolds (London, England) rounded out the top five, finishing with a time of 18:10.

The Bulldogs’ Annmarie Tuxbury, a three-time NEC Rookie of the Week, joined her two teammates in the top-10, finishing in ninth (18:27) to take home NEC Freshman of the Year honors.

Sacred Heart took home the runners-up team trophy with 54 points. Bryant finished third with 82 points while Monmouth (117) and Central Connecticut (140) rounded out the top-five. Mount St. Mary’s took the sixth spot with 163 points, Robert Morris was seventh with 167 and Wagner was eight with 202. Monmouth seniors Amanda Eller and Kelsey Maher took 10th and 11th, respectively, to run to a spot on the NEC-All Conference squad. Central Connecticut’s Krisztina Dearborn placed 13th and Elizabeth Eberhardt was 14th to round out the All-Conference honorees.
