Quinnipiac could not have picked a better time to get hot and reel off four straight wins, a feat that has propelled the Bobcats to the top of the Northeast Conference standings and into the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Most recently, QU defeated the Western Pennsylvania contingent of the NEC, with sophomore
Borja Angoitia, this week’s NEC Player of the Week, leading the way. The second-year netminder combined for 11 saves and picked up his first career assist on a long-boot pass that capped off a 2-0 win over Saint Francis (PA). He made six saves in that Friday game, just two days before he wrapped up his weekend with a five-save outing in a 3-1 win over Robert Morris. NEC Rookie of the Week
Dillon Johnson of Mount St. Mary’s made it a memorable weekend as he scored not just his first collegiate goal, but his first TWO collegiate goals in a 2-0 shutout of the Colonials at home. He netted the eventual game-winner unassisted late in the first half, and capped off the game with an insurance goal with just minutes to play.
