NEC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Release (3/12)
3/12/2012
Quinnipiac's Michael Sagl
It was another exciting week in the world of NEC men’s lacrosse. Five of the six teams were in action, accumulating a 5-2 record against non-conference competition and knocking off two nationally-ranked teams. Sacred Heart’s Mike Mawdsley found the back of the net early and often as the second-year attackman totaled nine goals in a pair of Pioneer victories last week, including five in a 13-12 win over then-No. 15 Yale, to earn this week’s NEC Offensive Player of the Week award. Splitting the defensive player of the week award, Sacred Heart’s Ryan Hughes and Dillon Pope of Robert Morris both shined in goal while picking up their first collegiate wins, respectively. Hughes stopped 12 shots in both games, finishing the week with a 9-6 win over Manhattan. Pope made 13 saves as the Colonials knocked off then-No. 18 Ohio State, 9-7, for the second straight year. Quinnipiac’s Michael Sagl took home the rookie honor after exploding for eight points during the week, including a career-high four goals and six points in a setback to Detroit Mercy.
