Northeast Conference Baseball Release (3/19)
3/19/2012
Bryant’s Kevin Brown became the first non-Monmouth Hawk to capture the NEC Baseball Player of the Week award this season. The junior right fielder, who was a NECBL All-Star this past summer, tallied eight hits, including four long balls, and eight RBI during the Bulldogs’ four-game NEC sweep of Mount St. Mary’s. Brown’s freshman teammate captured the NEC Rookie of the Week award for his successful start in the series opener. Rookie righty Kevin McAvoy threw 7.0 innings of one-run ball in an eventual 11-3 win over the Mount. While Monmouth failed to make it four NEC player of the Week awards in a row, the Hawks were not shut out of this week’s awards program. Junior right-handed fireballer Pat Light struck out 13 batters in a complete-game victory over Garden State rival Fairleigh Dickinson. Amassing the most strikeouts in a NEC contest since April 2010, Light pitched his way to the NEC Pitcher of the Week honor.
