Mount's Robert Burke

Emmitsburg, MD -- Mount St. Mary's University accepted the resignation of Head Men's Basketball Coach Robert Burke today.

"We thank Robert for his service to our players and to the Mount community, and we wish him well," said Director of Athletics Lynne Robinson. "We will now focus our attention on hiring the best head coach to lead our renowned men's basketball program."

Burke requested to be placed on paid administrative leave following conversations with University officials in mid-February. Assistant Coach Matt Henry was named Acting Head Coach on February 15 and guided the Mountaineers to a 2-2 record in the team's final four regular season games.

Burke came to the Mount in May of 2010, and amassed a 17-40 overall record. Mount St. Mary's finished this season with an 8-21 record overall, 6-12 in the Northeast Conference.

The Department of Athletics will have no further comment regarding the search until a new coach is appointed.
