Somerset, NJ – Robert Morris redshirt junior Dave Morton (Orangeville, Ontario/The Hill School) broke an 11-all tie with the go-ahead goal at the 7:55 mark of the fourth quarter, exactly two minutes and 24 seconds before senior Kiel Matisz (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Saltfleet) netted the eventual game-winner to lift the Colonials to a 13-12 victory over 20th-ranked Bryant and clinch the NEC regular-season title on Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.
The Colonials, who finish the regular season 11-3 overall and 5-0 in league play, will host the 2012 NEC Men’s Lacrosse Championship, set to begin on Friday, May 4, in Moon Township, PA.
RMU will face fourth-seeded Mount St. Mary’s (5-8, 2-3 NEC), which defeated Wagner (1-13, 1-4 NEC), 16-7, earlier this afternoon to complete the four-team field. Bryant, standing at 12-4 and 4-1 in NEC action, earns the No. 2 seed and will entertain third-seeded Quinnipiac. The winners will then square off for the NEC Title on Sunday, May 6.
