Brooklyn NY -- Long Island University head coach TJ Kostecky has announced the addition of eight student-athletes to his squad for the 2012 season. Brian Alumbaugh (Northville, Mich.), Shaun Daly (Columbia, N.J.), Logan Keys (Whitehall, Pa.), Weston Meckes (Riverside, Calif.), Nahuel Medina (Miami, Fla.), David Nuernberg (Bremen, Germany), Tanner Sica (Toms River, N.J.) and Robert Soto (Freehold, N.J.) will join the team this fall.
"We're very excited about our incoming class, as we have increased the talent pool to our young returning team,” said head coach, TJ Kostecky. “The players we've brought in have met our specific positional needs, and are capable of making an immediate impact next fall.”
A four year All-Conference Scholar Athlete at Northville High School, Alumbaugh was a 2011 All-State selection. A member of the Michigan Wolves club team from 2005-2010, Alumbaugh also played for the Derby County Wolves US Soccer Academy team in 2010 and 2011. This year, Alumbaugh plays for WAZA FC in the USYSA National League.
Daly was named a First Team All-Conference selection and anAll-State selection while playing at North Warren Regional High School. Daly also plays for the Keystone Athletic Club team in Pennsylvania.
Keys attended Whitehall High School, and during that time played on the Eastern Pennsylvania Olympic Development Program (ODP) U16 team and helped them become national runners up in 2010. Keys currently plays for both the Philadelphia Union U18 team and the FC Delco U18 team in the US Soccer Development Academy.
While attending Arlington High School, Meckes helped lead his team to the CIF Southern Section D2 League Championship in 2009. Meckes was also a member of the 2010 USYSA U16 National Championship team, Slammers FC.. Meckes currently plays for the Pateadores SC U18 team in the US Soccer Development Academy.
Medina played at Felix Varela Senior High School, where he helped his team to the FHSAA State Finals in 2010. The Miami native was also named to the All-County 6A Team in 2010. Medina served as captain of the U16 Kendall SC Academy team in 2010 and 2011, and currently plays for the Kendall SC U18 team in the US Soccer Development Academy.
Nuernberg is a transfer from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia, where he appeared in all 19 games as a freshman for the Senators in 2011. As the top scorer in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Nuernberg scored 16 goals and tallied six assists. Nuernberg also appeared on the Dean’s List his rookie season with a 3.6 GPA.
The 2011 Ocean County and Class A South Player of the Year, Sica also earned All-State honors as a member of the Toms River High School North team. Sica currently plays for the Match Fit Chelsea FC U18 team in the US Soccer Development Academy.
At Freehold Boro High School, Soto helped lead his team to three North Conference Championships. Soto was also named North Conference Player of the Year in 2011. An ODP Regional Team player, Soto attended Nike ID2 camp and helped his club team, NJSA04, to the state finals. Soto currently plays for the Match Fit Chelsea FC U18 team in the US Soccer Development Academy.
