5/14/2012
Central Connecticut locked up a coveted spot in the four-team Northeast Conference Tournament, which is set to begin on May 17, with the help of sophomore outfielder JP Sportman and senior hurler Harry Glynne. As a result, both Sportman and Glynne earned honors in the final edition of the NEC’s regular season weekly awards program. Sportman, the NEC Player of the Week, had multiple hits and at least one RBI in each of Central’s four victories over Mount St. Mary’s. Glynne, the NEC Pitcher of the Week, threw a 9-inning, complete-game shutout in the opener of CCSU’s four-game set at the Mount. The final NEC Rookie of the Week award of the season went to LIU Brooklyn pitcher Jordan Wilcox. The native Californian hurled 8.0 frames of shutout ball in a victory over playoff-bound Fairleigh Dickinson.
