Brooklyn Heights, NY -- The student-athletes who represent St. Francis College have achieved a new level of academic excellence. At the conclusion of the 2011-2012 year, the 191 Terrier student-athletes have achieved a composite cumulative grade point average of 3.21, which is the best such mark since the department began tracking these figures in 2000.
From a team perspective, 13 of the Terriers' 15 “sport groups” have cumulative grade point averages of 3.0, with nine having cumulative grade point averages of at least 3.25 and the men's water polo team leading the way with a 3.47 cumulative GPA. (The College sponsors 19 teams; the cross-country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field teams for each gender were combined into one sport group due to the commonality of these team rosters.)
Individually, 122 of the 191 student-athletes (64 percent) own cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or higher, including 66 of the 88 female student-athletes (75 percent). While the athletic program graduated a significant number of seniors with impressive academic credentials this spring, the freshman class has stepped in to continue the fine academic tradition. Three freshmen student-athletes, including two members of the women's basketball team, achieved perfection with 4.0 grade point averages for the academic year. A total of 10 student-athletes earned 4.0 grade point averages in the spring, 2012 semester. In addition, 16 others earned spring grade point averages between 3.80 and 3.99, thus a total of 26 student-athletes were above 3.80 for the spring.
