Emmitsburg, MD -- Senior Gigi Gibilisco (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame [N.J.]), a member of the Mount St. Mary's men's track and field team, has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One All-Academic District II Men's Track and Field/Cross Country First Team, announced today.
Gibilisco, a music education major with a 3.92 grade-point average, will now move on to the national ballot.
To be eligible for the team, which is voted on by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members, a player must contribute significantly to his/her team and have a grade-point average of at least 3.30.
Gibilisco won the 800m run at both the Indoor and Outdoor Northeast Conference Championships this year, setting a new conference record outdoors with a time of 1:49.86.
This past week, Gibilisco advanced to the quarterfinals and finished in 18th place at the NCAA East Preliminary Round. He posted a time of 1:49.88 in the quarterfinals, good for 33rd in the nation as only 15 runners from the West Preliminary topped his time.
Gibilisco was also on the Mount's 4x400m realy team that won the NEC title this year while he qualified for the IC4A Championships both indoor and outdoor. He has won the past four NEC Championships in the 800m run and was the NEC Outdoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2011.
