Loretto, PA -- On the eve of her final collegiate softball doubleheader, senior Megan Layne (Vallejo, Calif./Rodriguez) of the Saint Francis University softball team earned Capital One Academic All-District first team honors for District II for the second consecutive year.
Layne, a native of Vallejo, Calif., has served a majority of her senior season as the primary relief pitcher for the Red Flash and holds a team-best 2.09 earned run average. In 97 innings pitched, Layne has tossed eight complete games, one shutout and one save while tossing 62 strikeouts.
An English/Communications major, Layne was one of two pitchers selected from District II and has compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.95 throughout her time at Saint Francis.
A student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 to be eligible for nomination to the All-District ballot. CoSIDA's District II is comprised of Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
