Monmouth Women's Lacrosse Heads To Towson For NCAA Play-In Game

Monmouth NEC Women's Lax Champs '12

Fairfield, CT -- Monmouth University's women's lacrosse team travels to face No. 20 Towson University on Saturday at Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md. at 7 p.m.

Monmouth, which is 9-10 overall, won its fourth league title last weekend with a pair of dominating defensive efforts. MU allowed a NEC Tournament record 7 goals, including just three in its NEC Championship match against Mount St. Mary's. The Hawks have won five straight matches coming into the title game, the league's current longest win streak.

Towson (15-3 overall) hosts the NCAA Play In Game after capturing the CAA Tournament Title with a 8-7 victory over James Madison. The Tigers boast one of the top defenses in the country, losing to Johns Hopkins 5-4 in a rivalry match with two of their three losses coming against teams ranked No. 3 in the nation at the time.

Monmouth and Towson have never met on the lacrosse field.

Monmouth in the NCAA Tournament:
The Blue & White has made it to three NCAA games, losing to top-ranked Maryland in 2001 and third-ranked Georgetown in 2006 before a loss to LeMoyne in the 2007 NCAA Play-In game.

Four Hawks earn All-NEC Honors:
Thursday night it was announced that four Hawks earned All-NEC honors.  Junior
Gianna D'Urso and sophomore Kaleigh Gibbons were named First Team All-NEC while senior Sam Lillo earned her second consecutive Second Team All-NEC nod. Freshman goalie Katie Donohoe was named to the NEC All-Rookie Team. Click HERE for the full release.
