Staten Island, NY -- Graduate student Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY/ Notre Dame Academy), one of the most versatile athletes produced on Staten Island in recent years, who scored 982 career points and grabbed 732 rebound in her basketball career while collecting 92 hits on the softball diamond, was featured along with the SeahawkG softball program on “Sports Spotlight”, the NY1 cable television show this weekend.
NY1 is a Time-Warner owned and operated cable channel and the segment was produced by anchor/reporter Rosemary Shultz.
In addition to earning her degree in business administration, Olsen played in 115 basketball games during her career with 84 starts. In her softball career, Olsen saw action in 136 games with 120 starts. In her consistent and productive athletic career wearing the Green & White, Olsen competed in 251 athletic contests while gaining starts in 204.
The Wagner softball team, guided by veteran coach Glen Payne, finished the 2012 season on an uptick, earning a sweep of Manhattan on the road. A host of players gained valuable experience this season as the 18-34 Seahawks featured 13 players who were either freshmen or sophomores.
Olsen will remain on Grymes Hill next season as she continues pursuing her master’s degree while serving as an assistant coach under Payne in 2012-2013.
