Staten Island, NY - Wagner College men's basketball coach Bashir Mason has announced that freshman
Dwaun Anderson has been granted a waiver by the NCAA and will be eligible to compete for the Seahawks in the fall semester of the 2012-2013 season. Anderson transferred to Wagner in January of 2012 after spending the 2011 summer session at Michigan State. He will have four years of eligibility remaining beginning on November 14 when the Seahawks travel to Delaware State.
“It’s obviously great news for us,” said Mason. “With Dwaun available it means we can begin establishing our identity as team as soon as practice begins.”
“He’s a really high level athlete,” Mason continued. “Dwaun is capable of doing the kind of things you see in NBA films, and now we won’t have to deal with two different teams this season, one with him and one without him.“
A National Top-100 recruit as a senior according to
Rivals, Anderson garnered 2011 Michigan Mr. Basketball honors following his senior year. He averaged averaged 20.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.9 blocks per game for Suttons Bay High School, en route to winning the state of Michigan's highest honor. A three-time All-State performer, Anderson continues to hold the Norsemen's scoring record with 1,503 career points, while also collecting a school-record 295 career steals.
Wagner returns nine letterwinners and four starters from last year's team that won a school-record 25 games.
