West Long Branch, NJ - The Monmouth University men's soccer team has jumped to No. 19 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Rankings, while also moving up to No. 26 in the College Soccer News Top 30 National Poll and No. 39 in the Top Drawer Soccer Tournament 48. The Hawks had previously ranked No. 27 in the College Soccer News poll, No. 42 in the Top Drawer Soccer Tournament 48 and received votes from the NSCAA National Rankings. The NSCAA also continues to rank Monmouth as the top team in the North Atlantic Region.
"We are off to a very positive start to the season," said Monmouth Head Coach
Robert McCourt. "The team as a whole has shown tremendous desire and commitment to the jersey. We understand this type recognition only makes the target on our backs bigger, so we will approach the upcoming challenges like we always do - one game at a time."
The Hawks remained unbeaten on the season with a 1-0 win against Columbia on Sunday afternoon.
Ryan Clark (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) scored the game-winning goal in the 37th minute, bending a corner kick directly into the net off the fingertips of the Lions' goalkeeper.
The Hawks return to action Friday, when they travel to intrastate foe Seton Hall. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange.
