Nine NEC teams competed at the Nassaney/Bryant Invitational this weekend, serving as a good first look of league competition this year. The host squad swept the women's NEC accolades this week. The Bulldogs' Eimear Black placed second out of 183 competitors at the meet in a time 18:05.5, earning her the NEC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor--the second of her career. Her teammate Annemarie Tuxbury  is the NEC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week, for finishing 18th at the invitational, ahead of all other NEC freshman. For the men, Tommy Gruschow of Mount St. Mary's took sixth place in a field of 125 competitors in a time of 25:49.4, and becomes the NEC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his efforts. The NEC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week, Darrel Gooding of Fairleigh Dickinson, finished right behind Gruschow in seventh place. Gooding's time is already a minute faster than FDU's top time from 2011.
