Wagner's Patrick O'Connor
Albany rode the efforts of NEC Offensive Player of the Week Drew Smith and NEC Special Team Player of the Week Ocieka Bakou to a season-opening win over Patriot League member Colgate. The former racked up 195 yards from scrimmage while the latter blocked two punts. The NEC Defensive Player of the Week award went to Wagner free safety Patrick O'Connor who made a game-high 10 tackles at FBS member FAU. Central Connecticut freshman Aaron Berardino took the NEC Rookie of the Week honor after logging four tackles and an interception at No. 17 Stony Brook.
