9/4/2012
Northeast Conference men’s soccer teams combined for an 11-9-3 record last week, with Monmouth, Sacred Heart and Saint Francis (PA) staying unbeaten in non-conference action. The Hawks defeated Providence and Rider before drawing even with Hofstra. Sacred Heart defeated Saint Peter’s and Columbia, while Saint Francis (PA) downed Cincinnati and tied Pittsburgh. Fairleigh Dickinson and Quinnipiac got rolling with back-to-back wins, moving to 2-1-0 on the season. For MU, junior transfer
Francois "Paco" Navarro had a big week, combining for six points and capturing a share of the NEC Player of the Week award. In a game against Providence, he scored two goals and assisted on another during a six-minute and 22-second span to rally MU from a 1-0 deficit and give them a 3-1 decision. Sharing the honor with him, Quinnipiac’s
Philip Suprise found the back of the net early and often in a 3-1 win over Lafayette, scoring three times following a one-assist outing against Holy Cross (W, 2-1). On the rookie side, Monmouth’s
Edney Derrick tallied five points, including three assists, in a three-game week. He also netted his first collegiate goal, the eventual game-winner, in a 2-0 win over Rider. To catch up on all the action, click one of the following links below.
