LIU Brooklyn Leads Field After Day One of 2013 NEC Women's Golf Championship

Daytona, FL - LIU Brooklyn jumped out to an 8-stroke lead at the 2013 NEC Women's Golf Championship. The defending champion Blackbirds shot a 304 to pace the field following the first day of the three-round event at the LPGA International “Legends” Course in Daytona, FL. 

Fairleigh Dickinson's Mariana Juaristi (Irapuato, Guanajuato/Prepa Tec), a junior, leads all individual players, carding a 1-under 71 in the first round. Quinnipiac's Krissy Unger (New York, NY/Northport), a freshman, sits two strokes behind in second place, while Central Connecticut's Anna Ausanio (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) is in third place after shooting a 2-over 74.

LIU Brooklyn has three golfers, Brianna Maynard (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill Col.), Cristina Felip (Barcelona, Spain/IES Joaquim Blume) and Alice Boothroyd (North Yorkshire, England/Rossett), in the top-10 after day one. Maynard and Felip, the 2012 individual champion, are currently tied for fourth with scores of 3-over 75, while Boothroyd one stroke behind in sixth place. 

Three athletes are tied for seventh after carding 5-over 77, including Sacred Heart's Gabi Riber (Stockholm, Sweden/Danderyds Gymnasium) and Malin Wallheede (Molnlycke, Sweden/Hulebacksgymnasiet), and Wagner's Miko Page (Brooklyn, NY/Edward R. Murrow), while four are tied for 10th place.

In the team race, three strokes separate second-place Fairleigh Dickinson from third-place Central Connecticut, while Quinnipiac is three strokes behind the Blue Devils in fourth place. Sacred Heart holds fifth place, while Saint Francis U is one stroke behind in sixth. Monmouth is in seventh, followed by Wagner, Robert Morris, Mount St. Mary's and St. Francis Brooklyn.
