LIU Brooklyn Secures Second Straight NEC Team Title; FDU's Juaristi Claims Individual Crown

Daytona, FL - After jumping out to an early lead on day one of the 2013 NEC Women's Golf Championship, LIU Brooklyn distanced itself from the field each day thereafter and captured its second consecutive conference championship with a team total of 942 at the LPGA Legends course in Daytona, FL. 

Head coach Natalie Desjardins and the Blackbirds boasted three athletes in the top-10 to clinch the victory on Sunday. Alice Boothroyd (North Yorkshire, England/Rossett) placed third with a total score of 230 after carding an 8-over 80, while teammate Brianna Maynard (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill Col.) was right behind in fifth with the same day three score for a total of 235. Marisol Doglioli (Acosta, Italy, Mount St. Mary's) tied for sixth to help LIU Brooklyn hoist the trophy once again.

Fairleigh Dickinson's  Mariana Juaristi (Irapuato, Guanajuato/Prepa Tec) captured the individual title, after shooting a 2-under 70 for a total of a 3-over 219. Juaristi, a junior, led the entire three days, and had two days with scores under par.

Central Connecticut's Anna Ausanio (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) placed second after carding a 1-over 73 for a three-day total of 226. The senior helped the Blue Devils shoot from fifth place to second, finishing 12 strokes behind LIU Brooklyn. 

Saint Francis U's Ann Colligan (Kittanning, PA/Kittanning) moved up two spots to finish in fourth place with a three day total of 232. There was a four-way tie at 236 for sixth place, as Mount St. Mary's Amanda Reach (Moscow, PA/North Pocon) and Sacred Heart's Gabi Riber (Stockholm, Sweden/Danderyds Gymnasium) moved up nine and five spots, respectively, along with LIU's Marisol Doglioli (Acosta, Italy, Mount St. Mary's) and Malin Wallheede (Molnlycke, Sweden/Hulebacksgymnasiet). Rounding out the top 10 was Taylar Jaramillo (Belen, NM/Belen) from Saint Francis U. 

In another major highlight of the day, Robert Morris' Halley Morrell (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) madea hole-in-one at the par-4 hole 13.

Fairleigh Dickinson finished third in the team standings, four strokes behind Central Connecticut, while Sacred Heart was one stroke behind the Blue Devils in fourth. Saint Francis U finished fifth, followed by Monmouth, Quinnipiac and Wagner. Rounding out the 11-team field was Robert Morris, Mount St. Mary's and St. Francis Brooklyn. 

LIU Brooklyn will now represent the NEC at the NCAA regional competition.
