Norfolk, VA -- The St. Francis Brooklyn men's soccer season came to an end on Thursday evening as the Terriers fell by a score of 3-0 against the Old Dominion Monarchs, in the First Round of the 2014 Men's Soccer Championship on the campus of Old Dominion.
The Monarchs opened up the scoring in the 29th minute. Christian Schroeer was taken down by Terriers' sophomore
Paul Galimi in the box and earned a penalty kick. Sidney Rivera took the kick for ODU and beat junior keeper
Jack Binks with the game-winner.
The goal came after a flurry of chances by the Monarch offense, who outshot the Terriers by a 12-1 margin in the first half.
In just the 2nd minute, Schroeer found an open Ryan Condotta, who put a header off the cross bar. Two minutes later, Schroeer created another chance sending a pass across the box to David Macsicza. Macsicza's then fired an attempt on target but Binks denied him with a diving save.
The Monarchs attack threatened again in the 13th minute but Binks, who made six saves in the first half, came up with another big stop on a shot from Rivera.
The Terriers generated a chance in the 19th minute as junior
Harry Odell moved in and ripped a shot that was blocked from 10 yards out.
Rivera and ODU had another opportunity in the 23th minute as the senior forward took a pass in the box from Geoffrey Hill and fired the ball over the net.
The Monarchs increased their lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute. Schroeer put a free kick into the box which was eventually knocked in by Ryan Condotta.
After ODU's second goal the Terriers attempted to answer back. St. Francis Brooklyn worked the ball to senior
Andy Cormack but his shot was blocked. In the 61st minute, junior
Vincent Bezecourt moved in on the net but he fired the ball wide.
The hosts put the game away with their final goal as Rivera broke free on the right side and beat Binks for his second goal of the contest.
St. Francis Brooklyn had one final opportunity to get on the board in the 72nd minute. Freshman
Adrian Cosovic collected a pass and had an open net but his shot was blocked. Classmate
Dominick Falanga's followed it up but his shot was also stopped by the Monarch's keeper. Falanga managed to get to the ball again on the rebound but his second attempt hit off the side of the net.
Despite the loss it was another extremely succesful season as the Terriers finished 11-6-4 and won their second consecutive Northeast Conference title.
