The Northeast Conference announced its annual softball awards to cap the 2014 season and kick-off the NEC Softball Tournament in Smithfield, RI, May 8-10. The All-NEC Teams consist of 24 student-athletes.

Bryant University's Elle Madsen (Wheat Ridge, CO / Wheat Ridge) was named Player of the Year while Central Connecticut State's Laura Messina (Marlton, NJ / Camden Catholic) earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Golden Glove honors went to Robert Morris junior Samantha Santillo (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln). Alexis Bower (Logan Station, PA / Williamsport Area), Saint Francis U freshman, was voted Rookie of the Year and Wagner standout Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA / Lynnwood) received the Most Improved Player nod.

After claiming the 2014 NEC softball regular season title, the Bryant coaching staff, led by first year head coach Shayne Lotito, was recognized by its peers as the Coaching Staff of the Year.   

During her sophomore campaign, Madsen held a .667 slugging percentage and led the conference with 12 home runs. The right-handed pitcher guided the Bulldogs to a 13-3 conference mark, and collected 22 wins in the circle in over 203 innings pitched. 

Messina, the nations shutout leader with 13 complete game shutouts this season, led the conference in Strikeouts (240), Batters SO Looking (58), Wins (23) and holds a conference earned run average of 1.34 earned runs per game. 

Defensive Player of the Year, Santillo earns the Golden Glove Award. The catcher did not commit an error in 2014 for a perfect 1.000 field percentage. Santillo faced a conference high 41 stolen base attempts and cut-off 10 runners. Santillo added 216 putouts and 21 assists in her junior campaign. 

Bower was a bright light for Saint Francis U's offense, starting every contest for the Red Flash and knocking in a team high 35 runs. Bower collected 77 bases during her first collegiate season and added a .305 batting average. In the circle, Bower earned 16 wins and a 2.36 ERA. 

Parker was recognized as the Most Improved Player, after doubling her 2013 batting-average and tripling her runs batted in. Parker led a Wagner offense that held the highest team batting average (.302). Parker led the conference with 60 hits on the season.
