NEC Player of the Week
Jenn Peters, LIU Brooklyn
Attack, Sophomore, Slate Hill, NY/Minisink Valley
Peters was virtually unstoppable this week as she scored 11 goals and added 14 points to lead the Blackbirds to a 1-1 record for the week. In a 10-11 loss to Kennesaw State on Tuesday, Peters had a tremendous all-around game, as she registered three goals, recorded two assists, picked up a ground ball, forced a turnover, and won a draw control. Peters lit up the scoreboard in a 21-20 win over Campbell on Saturday, scoring a season-high eight goals, connecting on all eight shots. She also added an assist and won three draw controls.
NEC Defensive Player of the Week
Tori Shinkowitz, LIU Brooklyn
Midfielder, Sophomore, Laurel Springs, NJ/Sterling
Shinkowitz was key for the Blackbirds defense in two one goal-games last week. Against Kennesaw State, she won four draw controls, picked up three ground balls, and scored the game tying-goal with less than three minutes to play before the Blackbirds scored the game-winning goal a minute later. Shinkowitz was equally impressive in a heartbreaking loss to Campbell. The sophomore registered another excellent all-around game as she scooped five ground balls, caused two turnovers, won three draw controls, and scored two goals.
NEC Rookie of the Week
Dana Davis, Robert Morris
Midfielder, Freshman, Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley
The freshman continued to shine in her rookie campaign, pacing Robert Morris to a 1-1 record for the week. Davis posted her first career hat trick and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 14-12 win over Detroit on Monday. Davis also picked-up a season-high eight ground balls, caused three turnovers, and won three draw controls. In a loss to Oregon on Friday, Davis scooped up a pair of ground balls, caused a turnover, and won a draw control.
