St. Francis Brooklyn's Glenn Braica Named District 18 NABC Coach of the Year

3/27/2015

Brooklyn Heights, NY -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) named St. Francis Broollyn Head Coach Glenn Braica as the UPS All-District 18 Coach of the Year for 2014-15. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, the coaches selected represent the finest coaches across America.

In his fifth year at the helm of the program, Braica guided the Terriers to their first NEC regular season title since 2003-04 and first postseason appearance for the program since taking part in the 1963 NIT.  The Terriers posted a 15-3 league record to finish the regular season three games clear of the pack, the largest gap between first and second place teams since LIU Brooklyn finished three ahead of Quinnipiac in 2010-11.

With 23 wins, the Terriers matched the school single-season record of 23 set back in 1953-54.  Boasting NEC Player of the Year Jalen Cannon and a first-team All-NEC performer in Brent Jones, the Terriers were seeded first in the NEC Tournament for the second time in program history and reached the NEC Championship game.  Braica was also selected as the Jim Phelan NEC Coach of the Year this past season for the second time in his career.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.  Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.  The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.  All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.  The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education.  Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
