Mount St. Mary’s Leads NEC SAAC to Record-Setting Fundraising Total

4/14/2015

Somerset, NJ - It’s been a banner year for the annual “Money Wars” Fundraiser.

With Mount St. Mary’s leading the charge, the Northeast Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s 10-campus effort generated a record amount of revenue.

This year’s edition of the fundraiser yielded a 54-percent increase from last year’s all-time high mark. SAAC leaders across the NEC’s 10 campuses collected $11,587.17 after pulling in $7,532.94 during 2014.

“The NEC SAAC’s goal was to beat last year’s fundraising total.  Not only did they accomplish that goal but they did so by a wide margin,” said NEC SAAC advisor Lisa Archbald.  “I am extremely proud of the work that went into making this year’s ‘Money Wars’ a huge success.”

One hundred percent of the raised funds will go to the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation. The Harrisburg, PA-located organization assists children under age 18 & their families who are facing the hardships of a cancer diagnosis.

“I’m so proud of the NEC SAAC members for their incredible dedication and commitment to the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation,” said NEC Commissioner Noreen Morris. “Not only did the Money Wars competition result in record-setting fundraising totals that will help assist the foundation’s outreach efforts, but the SAAC members also provided in-person support of the foundations’ efforts during the meeting this fall.”

Generating more than 25 percent of the total amount of revenue raised, Mount St. Mary’s earned the title of NEC Money Wars champion. The Mountaineers collected $2,900.00 to far exceed their 2014 total ($700.00).

Mount St. Mary’s dethroned 2014 champion Saint Francis U. The SFU Red Flash saw a slight downtick in donations, but still managed to raise $1,733.62 for the cause.

Saint Francis U’s 2015 total was the third-highest amongst NEC member. Only the Mount and Fairleigh Dickinson produced a higher total.

While Mount St. Mary’s enjoyed an astronomical increase from one year ago, FDU enjoyed an even greater jump. The Knights raised $2,256.37, an 881-percent increase from the school’s 2014 total. LIU Brooklyn accounted for a 637-percent improvement, contributing $1,132.83 to the conference-wide amount.
