New Haven, CT -- The Robert Morris University men's golf team saved its best for last, blitzing The Course at Yale for a two-over par 282 (+2) in the final day of competition at the 2015 NCAA Men's Golf Tournament New Haven Regional. The Colonials final round score was one stroke off the team record of 281 while the three-round total of 879 is tied for team's second-lowest score ever at a 54-hole event.
#16 South Florida bested the field by 14 strokes en route to first-place with an 826 total. San Diego State finished second at 840 followed by #20 Oklahoma State (842), #5 Vanderbilt (844) and #7 LSU (849) in the advancing positions. Robert Morris finished 13th in the New Haven field with an 879 on the par 70, 6,803-yard course.
Senior
Santiago Mejia looked like he was going to have a tough day, bogeying the first two holes. He would, however, record four straight birdies and play five-under over the next eight holes to get to as low as three-under par. Mejia finished out his day, and his career, with a two-under par round of 68 that moved him up 14 spots in the field to finish tied for 44th with a 218 total.
Junior
Dan Maier finished the event as the Colonials leader carding a 216 total that left him in a tie for 37th overall. Starting on the back nine with the rest of the squad, he recorded a pair of birdies that put him one over par. Maier polished off the front nine at even par to finish out the tournament with a 71 and give him the fifth-lowest 54-hole number in team history. It was the best score of his three-year career.
Junior
Garrett Browning improved again in the final round finishing up with a 72 highlighted by a trio of birdies. He three-day total of 224 left him all-alone in 64th position. Browning was even par through 14 holes Saturday.
Senior
Matt Gurska had a 75 and finished tied for 65th at 225. The senior carded one of only four eagles in the tournament to highlight his day. He finished with a three on the 553-yard par-five 16th hole. Senior
Ryan Prokay rounded out the corps of Colonials with his best round of the tournament. The senior cut six strokes from his previous round. A pair of birdies had him under par through 12 holes and he added a third before his round was over. Prokay finished with a 71 and tournament total of 226 that placed him 68th in the field.
