The Pioneers became the first Northeast Conference women’s program to complete the “triple crown” since 1997. After winning the NEC cross country crown in November followed by the indoor team title in February, Sacred Heart posted a convincing victory at the 2015 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The SHU Pioneers displayed their depth from start to finish, taking an early meet lead on Saturday and holding it all the way through Sunday’s competition despite an early-afternoon surge from LIU Brooklyn. The Pioneers’ 195.5 point total is the third-highest in meet history. Meanwhile, the Blackbirds, who secured the indoor team title this past February, finished with 140 points and took home the second-place trophy. Meet host Mount St. Mary’s was the other team to exceed the 100-point mark, claiming third with 107.5. SHU sophomore Nicole Bartosch led the team, contributing 22 individual points. Veteran thrower Kolbi Smith, who eased to victory in the shot put on Saturday, accounted for 20 of the Pioneers’ points. Four of the top-11 individual point-scorers at the title meet are on Sacred Heart’s roster. Senior distance runners Elizabeth Hutchins (18) and Emma Bolduc (17) were also keys to the success of SHU’s triple crown bid. LIU Brooklyn is home to the weekend’s top-two individual scorers. Junior sprinter Cemorne Davis piled up 25 points en-route to the NEC Most Outstanding Track Performer award, winning the 200m and 400m dashes and running on a pair of first-place relays (400m, 1600m). Davis’ point total was second to only to that of the Meet MVP. Junior Kyaira Wright-Harmon struck gold in the long jump and triple jump before setting the meet record in the high jump by clearing 1.78m. Her 30 points yielded the NEC Most Outstanding Field Performer honor along with the MVP award. Mount St. Mary’s freshman Sara Gardner won the 400m hurdles and took third in the high jump on the way to claiming the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer accolade. Saint Francis U thrower Jordan Collins (19), LIU Brooklyn mid-distance runner Katrina Anderson (18.5) and St. Francis Brooklyn’s Kristal Williams (18) were also high scorers over the weekend. Collins scored in the discus, hammer throw and shot put. Anderson struck gold in the 1500m run before earning a silver at the 800m distance. Williams proved she was the “Fastest Woman in the NEC” by sprinting 100m in 11.79s. In addition to Wright-Harmon's work in the high jump, two athletes set NEC outdoor meet records in the throwing events. Competing on her home field, Mount's Kelly Yanucil used a personal-best throw (50.53m - 165' 9.75") to become the javelin record holder. Meanwhile in the hammer throw cage, Saint Francis U's Emma O'Hara etched her name into the NEC record book with a 58.91m (193' 3.50") fling.
