Loretto, PA -- On its home course in Loretto, PA, Saint Francis U placed three runners in the top-10 to claim the program's first NEC Women's Cross Country Championship since 2004 on Saturday.

The Red Flash finished with 56 points, edging runner-up Central Connecticut by seven points and ending Sacred Heart's three-year reign as NEC champion. Junior Danae Peters (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) crossed the line first for Saint Francis U and finished the 5K course in 19:37.4. Her clasmate Hannah Dorian (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) was eighth overall with a time of 20:06.8 and Morgan Kiebler (Export, PA/Kiski Area) followed just one second behind in 20:07.8 to round out Saint Francis U's top three runners. Sophomore Angela Barber (Camp Hill, PA/East Pennsboro) completed the course in 20:29.9, good for 16th.

The NEC Most Outstanding Performer was once again CCSU's Brittany Mendelson (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug), who broke the tape to win her second straight NEC individual title. The junior finished with a time of 19.33.2 out of 75 runners, completing the difficult course 4.2 seconds ahead of Peters. Mendelson was a two-time NEC Athlete of the Week this season.

Mount St. May's freshman Maddie Kole (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) completed the course in 20:05.8 to lead all freshmen and earn the NEC Freshman of the Year award. The Mountaineer claimed three NEC Rookie of the Week and two NEC Athlete of the Week honors .

Following Saint Francis U and CCSU, Sacred Heart rounded out the top three with 76 points. In fourth was Bryant (97 points), followed by Robert Morris (147) and Mount St. Mary's (176). Fairleigh Dickinson finished seventh (202), St. Francis Brooklyn eighth (207), Wagner ninth (218) and LIU Brooklyn 10th (247).
