NEC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ALEX KLEIN, BRYANT
F, Sr., 6-1, Waterloo, Ontario
WEEK 7 STATS:
1 game, 26 points, 3 rebounds, 28 minutes, .480 FG pct., .857 FT pct.

Klein powered Bryant to a home win in its non-conference finale, pouring in a game-high 26 points against America East member UMass Lowell. Accounting for 35.6 percent of the team’s scoring output, the senior post player shot 48 percent from the floor during the 72-63 victory. The 6-foot-1 forward also pulled down three rebounds in 28 minutes of action. After missing her first three field goal attempts of the game, Klein quickly settled in and scored 10 of the Bulldogs’ 22 first-quarter points. The Canadian-born forward tied the game at 2-2 with a layup 1:22 into the opening period and the Bulldogs never trailed again. Klein was also responsible for Bryant’s first six points of the second half going 2-for-3 from the field and 2-for2 from the stripe during the first 1:52 of the third quarter. She leads Bryant in scoring average (17.0 ppg), and ranks second amongst NEC leaders, following 11 non-league games.


NEC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
KERSTIE PHILLS, WAGNER
G, Fr., 5-9, Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Christian
WEEK 7 STATS: 1 game, 16 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, .429 FG pct., .750 FT pct.
Phills has significantly upped her scoring output during the back end of Wagner’s non-conference schedule. The 5-foot-9 freshman, who has tallied double-digit point totals in four of her last five games, netted a career-high 16 points last week against Ivy League power Princeton. The North Carolina product played all 40 minutes for Heather Jacobs’ Seahawks, shooting 43 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line. Phills, who averages 4.8 rebounds per contest, secured seven caroms during the setback to the Tigers. Her 8.2 points per game are second-most amongst Wagner starters this season.

JESSICA KOVTACH (SAINT FRANCIS U)
The sophomore sharpshooter sank six three-pointers at CAA member William & Mary, scoring a game-high 28 points for the visiting Flash.

SHANOVIA DOVE (LIU BROOKLYN)
The senior guard accounted for 19 points and 10 boards during LIU’s tilt against UMBC at Barclays Center. It was Dove’s second double-double of the season.

ALEX KLEIN (BRYANT)
The Canadian-born senior forward netted a game-high 26 points, including 10 in the first quarter, to power Bryant past America East member UMass Lowell.

MARIA PALARINO (ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN)
Finishing as the Terriers’ leading scorer, the sophomore shot 78 percent from the floor while pouring in a career-high 20 points vs. MAAC member Rider.
