FDU's U Minn Woon Closes NCAA Men's Golf Regional with Third Round 72

-- Fairleigh Dickinson men's golfer U Minn Woon (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/Bolles School (Fla.)) closed out play at the 2016 NCAA Franklin Regional by shooting an even-par, 72.  Woon improved throughout the regionals 54 holes and finished with 225 total strokes (79 – 74 – 72).

The Regional is being hosted by Vanderbilt University and played on the University Club.  The course is set up to play as a par 72 over 7,190 yards.

Woon, starting on the 10th hole, was three under on the back nine before making the turn.  Woon birdied the 11th, 14th and 18th.  On the front nine he birdied two more holes, but also shot bogey on three holes and had one double bogey.  He finished +3 on the front nine to close his round at even par.

On the day, Woon birdied three of the four par fives and played the par fives at a combined -2.

For the tournament he was +9 and finished in a tie for 67th place.

Michael Perras of Houston one the regional with a total of 200 strokes (65 – 69 – 66).

Texas won the team competition with a -45.  Vanderbilt at -34, Houston at -25, LSU at -25 and Virginia at -22 also advanced to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
