Baton Rouge, LA -- Sophomore pitcher Erynn Sobieski tossed a gem and held Arizona State scoreless through six innings of play, but a two-out, RBI single from Taylor Becerra broke a scoreless deadlock and closed out LIU Brooklyn softball's season on Saturday afternoon at NCAA Regionals. The Blackbirds conclude the year with a 30-27 record, the 10th 30-win season in program history.

Neither team could get much going offensively throughout, as the Sun Devils advanced a runner into scoring position in the first inning via a walk and sacrifice bunt before Sobieski worked out of trouble.

In the second, ASU put runners on second and third with two away before Sobieski got Abby Spiel looking at strike three to end the threat. From there, the Sun Devils failed to hit a ball out of the infield over the next three frames as the Logan Township, N.J. product continued to use her drop ball effectively.

The Sun Devils broke the string of 12 straight batters that either grounded out, struck out or reached on an infield hit as Jennifer Soria popped out to right field. A two-out single to center put a runner on for Katee Aguirre, who drove a 1-2 pitch to the wall in right field that West was able to track down to end the inning.

West led off the top of the seventh with a line drive single to left to give the Blackbirds their first hit and first base runner of the game. A pop-up bunt double play on the next pitch, however, washed out the opportunity and a line out from sophomore Victoria Zamora closed the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Chelsea Gonzales led off with a single and a sacrifice bunt moved her to second with one out. Another ground ball out moved a pinch runner to third with two outs for leadoff batter Becerra, who lined a 2-2 offering from Sobieski into center for the game-winning hit.

Sobieski suffered the tough-luck loss to fall to 19-19 on the year, but did lower her ERA to 3.08 on the season. Kelsey Kessler went six innings for Arizona State to pick up her 14th win of the season.
